HEAVY increases in VAT, fuel prices and train fares are set to hit families across the Horsham district.
The increase from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent in VAT will see price hikes on many goods including electronics, cars, some food and drink and on household bills.
Further misery will be heaped on the district’s motorists as fuel prices at the forecourts soar. On New Year’s Day, a Government fuel duty increase put another 0.76p on to both petrol and diesel. On Tuesday the rise in VAT meant yetan other price rise.
Rail users are also in for a tough time as fares skyrocket. Train fares rose by an average of 6.2 per cent across the country but this masks regional differences in price increases and a series of increases for some unregulated fares that go up by more than ten per cent.
