Shelley Fountain: 'don't throw good money after bad'
THE PUBLIC don't want money to be spent on repairing Horsham's Shelley Fountain, according to recent comments.
Readers were asked which of three option they would prefer the council took up; fully reparing it, leaving out the hydraulics but keeping the water feature, remove it altogether.
In our vote, 57 per cent of you want the sculpture removed completely, while 16 per cent want the hydraulic removal option, with the rest looking for a complete repair.

For Heaven's sake get rid of the thing. It's unspeakably hideous.
Great idea, in the wrong place and poor execution. Yes it was fun to guess when it would go up or down but you had to do that while risking being soaked as the wind blew the water everywhere. In winter the frozen water was a danger so it has to be turned off.
Let's have a proper fountain. Running, splashing water is attractive & cooling in this hot weather.
There is an old saying; don't throw good money after bad.
Why not make it a "wishing well" fountain?
Hurrah! What wonderful news - that ghastly (so-called 'work of art') monstrosity will, hopefully, be removed from Horsham.
The thing has in my honest opinion has been a waste of money from day one, very rarely working fully or correctly.
This monstrosity, masquerading as art, has been an eyesore in our fair town for far too long.
If the Shelley Fountain is never going to rise again it should be removed and allowed to rest in peace. It's a pretty tacky symbol of Horsham anyway – more like a concrete cabbage than a 'Cosmic Cycle'.
Who needs a fountain? We've already got the water feature in the Bishopric. Surely this is enough.
