On Sunday, November 11, 1st Shipley Scout group gathered at St Mary’s Church, Shipley to mark Remembrance Day and donate a new bench to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Following the well-attended service with readings from the group, 1st Shipley Scouts presented the Revd. Patricia Sinton with a new seat to replace the dilapidated one in the church grounds.
Peter Sutton, Chairman of 1st Shipley Scouts said: “When the group originally heard that the Golden Jubilee bench at St Mary’s Church had become old and irreparable, 1st Shipley Scouts, which comprises Beavers, Cubs, Scout Explorers and Leaders began fundraising activities to replace one of the village’s favourite places to sit and rest.”
The new bench was presented by more than fifty of the fundraisers, aged from six years old, and is one of many projects that the 1st Shipley Scout group has undertaken to help the local community.
Peter continued: “We are incredibly proud of the community work that 1st Shipley Scouts continue to achieve and hope that the visitors to St Mary’s Church enjoy the new seating area as much as we enjoyed raising the funds to replace it.”
