Reporter becomes ukulelist

After hearing of a new Ukulele band in Horsham, County Times reporter Nikki Cutler went along for a ‘jam sesh’ with the creator of the group, Chris Clarke.

Many summer days had gone by when I had watched in awe the coolness of a guitarist sat in a park with friends, playing music that relaxes all those within hearing distance, so I was keen to become fluent in the skill of playing a string instrument in order to obtain that same captivating ability.

Admittedly the ukulele might not have quite the same sexy appeal as a guitar but I like to think this instrument can act as a fun stepping stone towards the real deal.

Within 30 minutes, Chris had taught me five simple cords and we were playing ‘count on me’ by Bruno Mars and other trendy tunes like ‘I wanna be like you’ from the jungle Book.
