Forest Pupils get VIP Invitation to National Hospitality and Catering Event

Pupils from The Forest School in Horsham were very special guests at a recent national hospitality event.

Malcolm Day and Pam Jackson from the Comptons Lane school accompanied Hospitality and Catering pupils when they were invited to join top chefs at the 2012 Sodexo Salon Culinaire event.

The showcase, which took place at the prestigious Ascot Racecourse, saw the best of Sodexo chefs taking part in live and static competitions and enjoying a range of master classes and live demonstrations. Around 1,000 guests attended the event.

Sodexo Salon Culinaire is normally reserved for industry professionals only; however Forest pupils were specially invited to attend. The boys were also invited to enter the Decorated Novelty Cake class – the only school ever to be asked to participate.

The pupils submitted an impressive piece which stood up alongside the professional entrants.

After the excitement of the competition the boys were able to develop their knowledge and learn the tricks of the trade from top industry names including celebrity chef Cyrus Todiwala, chef patron of the award-winning restaurant, Café Spice Namaste, and Reggae Reggae Sauce creator Levi Roots.

Malcolm Day, Food Technology teacher, said: “It was a great event to which we were thrilled to be invited. The boys did extremely well with their entry; they produced work of an extremely high standard.”

He went on to add that: “Learning from the world of businesses and from professionals is valued highly at Forest. We ensure that our pupils develop the extra knowledge and skills to enable them to be well prepared for their futures.”
