Pulborough sailor Ned Collier Wakefield (24), with his co-skipper, Sam Goodchild, have won the Normandy Channel Race 2012.

After some tight racing, they finished just ten minutes ahead of runners up Campagne de France, after covering 1,000 miles in six days.

Ned and Sam had been in second place for much of the race, but managed to take the lead on Saturday morning as they raced towards Cherbourg, in a nail-biting last 80-miles.

They were the only all-British crew in the event which covered 1,000 miles from Caen to Fastet rock and back in the double-handed Normandy Channel Race.
