Postman ‘dragged under van’ in Fittleworth

Emergency services including Sussex Air Ambulance were called to Fittleworth after a postman was dragged under a van this morning (Thursday April 3).

The incident took place around 11am in Wyncombe Close.

An eyewitness described seeing a van roll backwards and collide with a postman.

He said three people rushed to the man’s aid.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “A man in his 50s had been struck by a van and dragged under the van though it was at a slow speed under ten miles an hour.

“We sent two ambulance crews and the air ambulance was assigned.

“It was a man in his 50s who suffered grazing to his shoulders and back and was suffering back and leg pain.

“There were no obvious fractures but nonetheless he was taken as a priority to St Richard’s Hospital [in Chichester] by road.”

Emergency services left the scene at 1.10pm.
