Two bones that are believed to be human have been sent for analysis after they were discovered near a pond in Pease Pottage on Wednesday (January 28).

A Sussex Police spokesperson said a member of a local angling club who was fishing at the pond in Parish Lane found the bones on Monday (January 26).

The bones have been taken away for analytics.

The spokesperson said: “Police search teams have searched the area around the lake and into woodland nearby, but no further bones have been found.

“The find is being treated as unexplained rather than suspicious at this time, but police enquiries, which are at an early stage, are continuing.”

Detective inspector Mark Cullimore of West Sussex CID said: Anyone with information which might assist the investigation is urged to contact us via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call us on 101, quoting ‘Operation Carlisle’.

“You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
