Tories win former leader’s seat in by-election

AT THE by-election held on Thursday 16 February 2012, the Conservatives have retained control of the vacant seat on Horsham District Council of Itchingfield, Slinfold and Warnham.

The results of the by-election for the seat on Horsham District Council of Itchingfield, Slinfold and Warnham are as follows:

- David Vaughan Hide – The Labour Party Candidate – 60 votes

- Justin Francis Pickard – The Green Party – 65 votes

- Stuart David Ritchie – The Conservative Party Candidate – 557 votes

- Ian Robert Shepherd – Liberal Democrats – 320 votes

- George William Tribe – UKIP – 173 votes

The overall turnout was 27 per cent.

There were three polling stations for the by-election - Barns Green Village Hall in Itchingfield, Slinfold Village Hall in Slinfold and Warnham Primary School in Warnham - which were open all day from 7am -10pm.

The count for the by-election took place on Thursday 16 February 2012 at Park Barn in Horsham.

The by-election followed the resignation of Cllr Robert Nye in December 2011.

Acting Leader and Cabinet Member for Efficiency and Resources, Councillor Ray Dawe said:

“I am absolutely delighted that Stuart has held this seat with nearly 50 per cent of the vote despite the low turnout.

“I’m really looking forward to having him join our team at Horsham District Council.”
