West Sussex County Council is to hold an extraordinary meeting next month to discuss its position on a second runway at Gatwick Airport.

In July 2013 the council decided it supported expansion at Gatwick ‘in principle’. At the meeting of the full council last Friday December 12, Bill Acraman (Con, Worth Forest) called for a fresh debate.

The council heard there would be a special full council meeting on Monday January 19 to discuss its response to the Airports Commission consultation.

A second runway at Gatwick is one of three options the Commission has shortlisted for airport expansion in the South East. It will make its recommendation to Government in summer 2015.
