HORSHAM District Council has signed a new contract with PayByPhone to offer customers the option of cashless car parking payments.
The new easy payment option will be available on a trial basis from Wednesday 6 June to motorists parking their vehicles in the Piries Place multi storey and North Street car parks in Horsham town centre.
This means motorists can quickly and easily pay for their parking with just a few simple taps on their mobile phones.
Machines will also continue to accept coin payment.
To use PayByPhone, customers follow a quick and simple one off registration process by phone, text message, mobile web or PayByPhone app to capture their vehicle registration and payment card details.
They then continue to make the parking payment using their mobile phones, which takes less than a minute.
Motorists in Horsham can now receive email receipts, online parking statements and there’s a choice to receive SMS reminders before the parking session finishes, so users can extend it without returning to their cars.
Roger Paterson, cabinet member for the local economy, said: “This is another win win situation. Motorists will now have a more convenient way to pay for parking without the bother of having to find the exact change, since the payment machines will provide the choice of easier payment by using mobile phones.
“The Council will make efficiency savings through not having to rely only on expensive pay and display machines, nor have to collect and bank cash payments, which is expensive and time consuming.”
