POLICE are investigating an incident of ‘cottaging’ involving a 15-year-old boy in public toilets in Horsham town centre.

It took place at toilets in Lower Tanbridge Way opposite Horsham Library, the force has confirmed. Cottaging is a term referring to sex, sometimes anonymous, between men in public toilets.

Chief Inspector Mark Trimmer, Horsham’s district commander, said: “We are aware of one incident that has been reported to us of some cottaging taking place down there. We don’t know how widespread it is. It’s only just been brought to our attention.

“We’re talking with the boy and his family and other partners to provide support and to try and locate the offender and we would obviously encourage people if they have any concerns to report them to us.

“We have increased patrols in the area to try and prevent and deter these offences being committed rather than force the facility to be closed.”
