Southwater driver Jolyon Palmer says he is ‘excited’ to be taking to his home track at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend.
The 24-year-old will get behind the wheel of his Lotus F1 Team’s E23 Hybrid in for the 90-minute session of free practice one on Friday as part of his role as third and reserve driver for the Enstone-based outfit.
It will be his fifth test of the season on a track he has enjoyed plenty of success at; claiming his maiden FIA Formula Two victory at the track in 2010 and finishing on the podium in last year’s GP2 feature race, on the way to his record-breaking title win, by virtue of his second-place finish.
He said: “Silverstone is one of my favourite races on the calendar so I am really excited to be driving in FP1 there this year. The track is awesome and the crowd is always the best of the year, which is a nice feeling for my home race! After testing in Austria, we hope to have made some improvements to score some more points this weekend.”
Alongside his driving commitments at Silverstone, Palmer will be busy with off-track media commitments for Lotus F1 Team, including attending the Grand Prix Ball on Friday evening and commentating on the GP2 Series action at the Northamptonshire track.
Palmer recently performed well in Austria recently; finishing 14th in both a Friday practice session of the Grand Prix weekend and then the post-race in-season test.
The next three races will see him drive in practice one in the Hungarian Grand Prix (July 24-26) followed by the Belgian Grand Prix (August 21-23) at Spa and the Italian Grand Prix (September 4-6) at Monza.
