PADDINGTON Bear, the mascot of a Horsham charity, has been crowned the UK’s favourite animated character at the British Animation Awards in London.

He serves as the mascot for Action Medical Research, celebrating 60 years in 2012, which funds research into conditions affecting children and babies such as meningitis, epilepsy and cerebral palsy.

Some of the charities’ achievements include testing the first Rubella vaccine, protecting children from polio and developing the use of ultrasound scanning in pregnancy.

Paddington Bear, created by Michael Bond in 1956, beat out a shortlist that included Aleksandr Meerkat and Super Ted.
