Opening date announced for new Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre

After more than a year's worth of works an opening date has been announced for the new multi-million-pound leisure centre in Broadbridge Heath.

Excitement has been building in the area as completion of the £12.3m sports and recreation centre - next to the current Broadbridge Heath Lesiure Centre in Wickhurst Lane - nears its end.

The building is owned by Horsham District Council which has confirmed the centre is set to open its doors to the public on October 20.

Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture councillor Jonathan Chowen said: “I am really pleased that after the many years of planning and preparation that have gone into such a major project, we are now at this exciting stage to announce when our new flagship leisure centre will open.

“The new leisure centre represents one of the most significant projects in the council’s history with an overall investment of some £12 million.”

The building - set to be named The Bridge - will host a 70 plus station gym, a six court spots hall, three studios, an indoor cycling studio and an athletics track.

There will also be a five-court outdoor sports courts, a sensory room, a cafe and a colourful Clip ’n Climb area for both children and adults. The council says the indoor climbing area stretches to a height of 7.5m and features walls and obstacles including a Twister, Astroball, Stairway to Heaven and Leap of Faith.

New toilet and changing facilities have also been created including a Changing Places toilet.

Mr Chowen added: “We have worked extensively with partners and local sports clubs to develop a new sports and leisure facility which will meet and exceed the current and future needs of the growing and ageing community of the Horsham District, and I wish to thank all those who have supported us in reaching this milestone.

“The new leisure centre will bring first class leisure opportunities to local people and we are confident it will exceed all expectations and provide a centre of excellence for sporting and leisure activity.”

Although owned by the council The Bridge will be operated by Places for Leisure.

The firm currently runs multiple sites across the district including the Pavilions in the Park Leisure Centre in Horsham Park, Billingshurst Leisure Centre and Steyning Leisure Centre.

The centre is set to replace the current Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre which will be demolished once The Bridge opens.

As part of the transition to the new centre the council has announced Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre will be close on Wednesday October 17.
