Horsham early closing - August 1914

World War I daily bulletin from the Horsham district

World War I daily bulletin from the Horsham district

This was the latest in a continuing argument for earlier closing that was being discussed before the war started.

“Dear sir, May we be allowed to suggest through your columns that as there is not the normal amount of business doing, all shops should close at 7 p.m. (or even 6 p.m.) and open a little later in the morning, except perhaps on Fridays and Saturdays.

“This would give the employees and assistants as well as ourselves the opportunity of serving their country at this anxious time by joining the Civil Guard or any other useful organisation.”
