New village near Pulborough? What do you think?

THE PUBLIC's views on plans for thousands of new homes across the Horsham district are being sought.

Options include a market town of 10,000 plus new homes in conjunction with neighbouring councils and a village of about 4,000 homes, with a site between Adversane and North Heath at Pulborough identified as a possible location.

Today (Friday September 4) is the start of consultation on Horsham District Council's core strategy review document 'Leading Change in Partnership to 2026 and Beyond', which runs until October 16.

We have taken one aspect of the consultation for our own online vote, asking our readers about the possible new village near Pulborough.

Add your comments below and join in our vote (right).

We also encourage readers to join in the council's own consultation (see details below).

Earlier this year the Government approved the South East Plan, giving Horsham district the challenge of providing 13,000 new homes, 9,200 in the Gatwick sub-region of Horsham and 3,800 in the rest of the district, from 2006 to 2026.

Alongside the village between Adversane and North Heath, eight potential sites for development have been put forward: west of Ifield, Faygate, Holbrook Park and Chennells Brook in north Horsham, Chesworth Farm in south Horsham, west of Southwater, east of Billingshurst and Pulborough.

The document can be found at www.horshamdistrictldf.info and comments can be made there or by writing, preferably using a comments form.

Comment forms are also available from the council's offices and local libraries.

Further information on the Core Strategy Review Consultation Document and process can be found in the autumn 2009 Horsham District News Magazine, which will be circulated to every home in the district by early September.

There will then be further public examinations of the document, ending with an 'examination in public', likely to be in the summer of 2011. It is anticipated the Core Strategy Review would be adopted in January 2012.
