New world record for Tommy confirmed

GUINNESS World Records have confirmed Tommy Tippett’s achievement rowing across the Atlantic Ocean.

The official new record states: “The youngest male to row across any ocean solo is Tommy Tippetts (UK, b.26 March 1989), who was 22 years 301 days old at the start of his row across the Atlantic, east to west, from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Canary Islands, to Barbados, West Indies, from 21 January to 12 April 2012 in Ked Endeavour.

“In all, Tippetts spent 82 days 8 hr 40 min at sea, raising money for Mind, the mental health charity.”

A spokesperson from Guinness World Records told the County Times: “We are really happy to confirm that Tommy’s achievement is a new Guinness World Record and welcome him to the Guinness World Records family.”
