THE NEWLY purchased Purple Bus and Snack Wagon were on display in Pulborough earlier this month (Tues 19 June) to celebrate new investment into these invaluable services.
The vehicles serve as informal places for young people to meet and provide a focal point for youth work in a variety of locations.
Whilst both services are well established, the event highlighted the ongoing commitment of a number of partners that enables these valuable services to young people to continue.
The Snack Wagon serves the whole of the Horsham District while the Purple Bus serves the north of the Chichester and Horsham Districts.
The launch event at Pulborough Recreation Ground in Pulborough was attended by many young people from the Pulborough area and also from other parts of the Horsham and Chichester Districts. Young people were able to participate in a range of activities.
Snack Wagon and Purple Bus Youth Workers were available for those interested to meet them and to look around the new vehicles.
Staff from the Sussex Central YMCA’s Horsham District Alcohol Intervention Project attended, along with officers from the West Sussex Road Safety team, Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
Horsham District Council’s Leisure Link team were there with mobile skate ramps and other activities while some of the young people performed on stage for onlookers.
Free food and drinks were also provided for the event, courtesy of Sainsbury’s in Horsham.
Adam Breacher, Horsham District Council’s deputy cabinet member for a safer and healthier district, said: “It was fantastic to see both vehicles in action with so many young people using the facilities on offer.
“Having a mobile youth provision can give young people help and support around the District. It gives them the opportunity to seek advice on certain issues that they may have.”
The Snack Wagon is a joint service provided by Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council.
The Purple Bus is managed by The Rural Mobile Youth Trust and receives support from Chichester District Council, Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council.
