Three musical masterpieces performed by six fine players must surely be one of the most unmissable events of the 2013 concert series at St Mary’s House, Bramber.

The performance by the Astraeus Ensemble takes place at 3pm on Saturday 16 November. The programme includes the joyful Sextet by Gordon Jacob, an arrangement of Prokofiev’s delightful and catchy Overture on Hebrew Themes, and a rare opportunity to hear the first complete arrangement for wind instruments of Beethoven’s Septet, one of the masterpieces of the classical repertoire.

The Ensemble was formed in 2007 by musicians from Brighton and London, and consists of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon and piano. Among their many appearances, the ensemble has given fund-raising concerts in London for Amnesty International, joining in a rare performance of Mozart’s Grand Partita for 13 instruments.

Tickets, which include tea and cake in the interval, are £25, and can be obtained from the box office at St Mary’s House, telephone 01903 816205, email concerts@stmarysbramber.co.uk, or go to the website www.stmarysbramber.co.uk.
