Managerless Horsham’s Ryman League South Division match at Merstham today has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The match referee deemed the Weldon Way pitch was unfit in an inspection at 11am this morning.

Experienced midfielder Anthony Storey was set to take temporary charge of the Hornets after player-manager Gary Charman resigned on Friday night.

It is the first game of the season that the Surrey-based side have had to postpone.

It does now give the Horsham board time to search for Charman’s replacement ahead of their home match with fellow managerless side Hastings, whose boss Dominic Di Paola stepped down last week, on Wednesday night.

In the County League, Horsham YMCA’s match at Crawley Down Gatwick is off, as is Broadbridge Heath’s home match with Dorking Wanderers.

Loxwood’s match at East Preston was postponed earlier in the week due to a six-foot deep hole appearing in the pitch at The Lashmar.

Steyning’s game at Division 2 leaders Worthing United is off, as is Storrington’s home match with Little Common.

In Division 3, Billingshurst’s match at Bosham has been called off. Roffey’s home match against Worthing Leisure in the Intermediate Cup has also fallen foul of the weather.
