Horsham District Council is supporting national Love Your Local Market fortnight from June 23 to July 8.
The importance of local markets to the health and distinctiveness of local high streets has been highlighted in the government’s Portas Review.
Horsham town centre already has a well run market operation which has been going from strength to strength under the management of Aldred Associates and it is hoped that the new ‘The Best of the Best’ Thursday Market will become a regular feature in the Carfax.
Plans are being made for a ‘MarketsBiz’ open afternoon on Saturday July 7 to offer advice and support for prospective local market businesses.
Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for the Local Economy, councillor Roger Paterson, said: “We want our market operations to attract high quality, young retail and producer entrepreneurs so many congratulations to our market organisers, Aldred Associates, for their new Thursday Market proposals, which are sure to encourage even more small businesses as new stallholders.”
PJ Aldred, from Aldred Associates, said: “The markets are a great way to get started and flourish as a local producer and retailer.
“Let’s not forget the roots of some our biggest modern retailers and today’s markets still play host to some of the most exciting businesses offering the best quality, unique, local goods and produce.”
