Worthing police evict anti-social woman
A WOMAN was evicted from her home in Worthing by police because of her continued anti-social behaviour and drugs use.
Using new powers under the Anti-social Behaviour Act, police formally closed 43 Heron Court in Victoria Road, after neighbours gave evidence about the anti-social behaviour of 24-year-old Kirsty Perkins.
PCSO Kevin Brown, who led the operation, said: "The effect she was having on her neighbours and the area was so detrimental to their quality of life.
"Her property and others in Heron Court have been central to drug-dealing on quite a large scale for sometime.
"It got to the point where parents were fearing for their children and having to keep a contant eye on them."
Stranger problem
PSCO Brown said strangers were constantly entering the secure building and causing problems.
One resident had been woken at 3am by a man who knocked on the door asking if she had any ketamine.
After a court order was issued the flat will now be closed for three months and police will work with Southern Housing to get Perkins evicted from the property for good.
Previously, police had carried out 12 warrants at the flat under the Misuse of Drugs Act and found quantities of cannabis and drug paraphenalia.
Closures continue
PCSO Brown worked closely with the community and neighbours to bring the case to court, after they made repeated complaints of anti-social behaviour and drugs-use.
In June, the first property in Heron Court closed. It was the first case of its type led by a Police Community Support Officer.
The closures, which are part of Worthing Police's ongoing Operation Wolf, gives police the ability to close the homes of persistent anti-social behaviour offenders because witnesses who give evidence can now do so anonymously.
