Windfall for Horsham 90-year-old
Horsham nonagenarian Ronald Murrell is celebrating a windfall with a difference, after claiming the £8,000 winning ticket in the Age Concern and Help the Aged Christmas raffle.
The 90-year-old was overwhelmed to find out he was the winner: "I was completely taken aback when I got the phone call telling me I'd won – I couldn't believe it," he said.
"I've been buying raffle tickets for years and this is the first time I've won anything."
Ronald added: "I had a choice between claiming a Ford Fiesta, or the 8,000.
"As I've given up driving, I'm going to use the money to do up my home.
"It's going to make such a difference."
Michelle Mitchell, charity director at Age Concern and Help the Aged, said: "We're delighted to present Mr Murrell with the 8,000 first prize.
"Our raffles are a fantastic way for people to support the vital work carried out by the charity, with funds raised going towards a range of different local projects - providing a local community group with a much-needed vehicle or running local lunch clubs, for example."
