West Sussex Record office leads to way with research and stay
Visitors from home and abroad looking to go through West Sussex Record Office’s extensive archives can now carry out their research and stay overnight.
The office is offering visitors three-hours of one-to-one guidance from expert and experienced researchers with accommodation at two of the county’s top hotels.
It means anyone who wants to examine the extensive archives and historical treasures can get a head start with their studies and then relax afterwards at a leading hotel.
Visitors can either stay at The Goodwood Hotel set in the grounds of the famous estate at £199 or in Trents right in Chichester at £170 per night.
The Goodwood Hotel includes a state-of-the-art health club with stunning indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms, as well as treatment rooms and two golf courses to choose from.
Trents offers stylish accommodation with five beautifully renovated en-suite bedrooms, free Wi-Fi and an excellent bar and restaurant that offers a light Mediterranean menu.
This is the first time a Record Office has teamed up with local hotels to offer this kind of service.
West Sussex County Council deputy leader Lionel Barnard, who is responsible for the Record Office, said: “Our archives are an invaluable resource for local residents but we often receive inquiries from people who live a long way away.
“This offer will give them somewhere to stay and if they have limited time the inclusion of a professional researcher who can help them to get the best out of their searches.
“With Gatwick on our doorstep the service should be of interest to visitors from places such as Australia, Canada, and the United States who want to find out about their ancestors.”
