A woman has died in a collision on the A283 in Pulborough.
A statement from Sussex Police said: “Emergency services were called to Lower Street, Pulborough, at the junction with the A29, just before 7.30am on Thursday 16 August, after a heavy goods vehicle and a local woman pedestrian believed to be in her seventies had been in collision.
“Paramedics attended to the woman but sadly she died at the scene a short while later.
“The A29 is currently closed between Whiteways roundabout, which is north of Arundel, and Pulborough, and there are other local road closures in Pulborough itself, while the scene is examined, and drivers are being advised to avoid the area for the time being if possible.”
Sergeant Stewart Goodwin, of the Sussex Roads Policing Unit said; “We hope to re-open the road as soon as possible this morning, but it is important to carry out a thorough investigation at the scene and we are grateful for drivers’ patience when faced with delays.
“We are also seeking witnesses to this tragic incident. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact us via 101 quoting Operation Melrose.”
