THE County Times has heard the first reports of petrol stations in the district running out of fuel following Francis Maude’s advice yesterday, widely reported as a public relations blunder.

One motorist travelling into Horsham this morning (Thursday) saw queues outside Sainsbury’s where drivers were stocking up.

She said: “I got to the roundabout outside Sainsbury’s and there was a major jam there because of people buying petrol at the station there.

“Cars were spilling out onto the roundabout queueing to get in.”

At lunchtime cars were still queueing to fill up their tanks even though police and the Government have urged there is no need to panic.

The Tesco Express garage in Roffey is one of the garages coned off to motorists after running out of both diesel and petrol since yesterday.

Mr Maude is once again hitting the Twitter airwaves today for the third time in one week with #francismaudeadvice in the top ten topics mentioned.

Earlier in the week he hit the headlines during the ‘cash for access’ row after suggesting some donors should have access to the Prime Minister.
