A serious accident closed the A24 in both directions on the outskirts of Horsham this afternoon (Saturday January 26).

The stretch of A24 in Broadbridge Heath between Hop Oast park and ride roundabout and the Broadbridge Heath roundabout was shut for a couple of hours.

The accident happened just before 3.30pm.

County Times head of digital Steve Payne drove past the accident just before the road was closed.

He said: “There seemed to be one silver car that emergency services were concentrating on. There were a number of fire engines and police cars and more emergency vehicles were on the way as we went past.”

The northbound stretch was quickly closed and the southbound road was also closed for a short time.

Because of the road closure a number of alternative routes became congested around town including Worthing Road.
