Tributes for popular minister
TRIBUTES have flooded in this week for inspirational Horsham church minister the Rev David Richardson who died in the early hours of Friday morning (December 21) aged 60.
Never afraid of controversy Rev Richardson spearheaded an ambitious redevelopment project at Horsham's Brighton Road Baptist Church where he was minister for over 25 years.
Family and friends have told the County Times this week of their memories of a 'wise' and 'caring' man.
You are welcome to add your own tribute below.
Mr Richardson, of Heron Way, Horsham, moved to the town with childhood sweetheart Christine in 1982 from St Peters Broadstairs, in Kent.
He leaves his wife, three daughters, a son and four grandchildren.
Mr Richardson was a key influences in the massive ongoing rebuild scheme at the Baptist church, which is close to completion.
His son, Gareth Richardson, of Byron Close, Horsham, a member of the building committee for the new church, said: "He felt that the old building had served its rightful purpose, so his vision was really that the facilities would be honouring to God but also practical to the community, and to be used not only on a Sunday but by many other groups."
Daughter Lynette Halpin said: "His life was so busy with the church and him and mum loved to get away from it all by taking walks where he used to gain solace in being amongst God's creations. "
Church secretary Chris Bird said many of the minister's old Broadstairs congregation came to his induction service at Brighton Road Baptist Church in May 1982, revealing the high esteem the fellowship held him in.
