Traffic chaos at Handcross Hill
TRAFFIC chaos hit the A23 this morning after poles in the back of a van went through the windscreen of a following vehicle.
Police were called to the scene at Handcross Hill and have closed the outside northbound lane as recovery is ongoing.
A spokesman said there were no injuries.
The smash followed an earlier accident in which both northbound lanes were closed after a small black car collided with the central reservation, causing massive tailbacks, shortly before 7am.
The female driver suffered minor injuries, police said.
At least one car was involved in another smash on the M23 at Pease Pottage today.
The accident happened at about 6am.
Two lanes were blocked in a northbound direction but are now cleared.
