Town's power failure - video report
HORSHAM was thrown into chaos today (Tuesday February 12) following a massive power failure.
EDF Energy report that 1,400 customers were affected by the power balckout which happened around 2pm.
Firefighters were called out as people were left trapped in a lift in The Forum,
A car was oinvolved in a collision at the Albion Way traffic lights which were out of action.
Police Community Support Officers were brought in to control the traffic.
Numerous shops were blacked out and customers had to leave the Lynd Cross pub, McDonald's, Sainsbury's, among many others.
An EDF Energy spokesperson said: "Power was interrupted to about 1,400 customers in the West Street area of Horsham at 2pm today.
"EDF Energy Networks engineers managed to restore supplies to about a third of the customers by 3.12pm and supplies to the remaining 782 customers were reconnected as swiftly and safely as possible in stages between 3.46pm and 4.05pm.
"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and we are investigating the cause."
