Three external planter benches were donated to Horsham station on Friday, November 16 following a new station partnership expansion of two local transport businesses.

Knights Travel and Knights 247 Cars are joining together to create a service tailored to fit Horsham’s growing transportation needs.

Knights marked the expansion by donating the benches which were planted at the newly refurbished station by Leechpool Primary School pupils as part of a scheme by the Sussex Community Rail Partnership.

Pene Mather, development officer on the Arun Valley Line for the Sussex Community Rail Partnership, said: “The planters are absolutely fantastic, everybody had fun despite the weather and it’s a partnership that will continue.”

Sussex Community Rail Partnership works with Southern Railway to help communities re-connect with their local station with both visual and physical improvements through partnership schemes.

Pene added: “We’ve had positive comments back from people saying it makes the station look nicer and that it gives them somewhere to wait, which is the biggest issue we had coming back from the refurbishment at the station.”

Family-run Village Nurseries in West Chiltington donated plants to ensure a great display along with hanging baskets to support and continue the visual improvements made by the new benches.

Bob Knight, owner of Knight’s, said: “This scheme has allowed us to put something back into the community we support.”

Knights welcome contact from local schools and groups who would like to help maintain the planters. For more details call 01403 247247.

The station partnership scheme is also open to anyone who would like to make or support an improvement at their local station. Contact pene@sussexcrp.org
