TEACHER DENIES MURDER

A TEACHER from a Horsham school denied a charge of murdering his wife when he appeared before a judge at Lewes Crown Court.

A TEACHER from a Horsham school denied a charge of murdering his 38 year old wife when he appeared before a judge at Lewes Crown Court.

Mark Parnham, aged 36, is alleged to have killed his wife Jillian at the family home in Mill Mead, Ashington, on March 5.

The couple, who had two young sons, were both teachers at Millais School, in Depot Road, Horsham, where Mr Parnham taught design and technology.

His wife, who was number two in the maths department, died from severe head injuries.

The body of Mrs Parnham was found by police in the lounge of the family home on the evening of March 5.

Mill Mead is a quiet cul-de-sac extended in the last few years when executive detached homes including the Parnhams were built beside the original 1970s development.

During the brief court hearing on Friday (May 25), Mark Parnham spoke only to confirm his name and enter a not guilty plea to the charge of murder.

He was remanded in custody and will stand trial on January 7 next year.

Mrs Parnham had taught at Millais for more than 15 years and had previously been known as Mrs Beeching. The couple married in 1989.

The death of Mrs Parnham was the second tragedy to strike the 1,360 pupil all-girls school this year.

In January deputy head teacher Sonia Bartlett, who had taught at the school for 27 years, died when her car was in a head-on collision with another vehicle on the A24 near Dial Post.
