Sunlight reflected off mirror causes blaze

A WARNING had been issued by the fire service after a blaze caused by reflected sunlight badly damaged a property in Bolney.

Firefighters from Hurstpierpoint and Haywards Heath were called about 5.15pm on Tuesday to a house in The Street.

A mirror on a dressing table focused the sun's rays onto nearby birthday cards and pot pourri, causing them to ignite.

The first floor bedroom, where the fire started, was damaged by fire, heat and smoke.

A woman with slight smoke inhalation was treated at the scene using oxygen therapy.
