Stables to go ahead on brookland with strict conditions
Stabling for four horses on land at Bramber Brooks can g0 ahead subject to stringent conditions, following approval by a Horsham development control meeting this week.
Mr George Marshall had applied for change of use from a cattle pen, to erection of four private horse stables on the land.
Councillors were told on Tuesday that the single storey building would consist of a hay store, tack room and be clad in traditional timber.
Access would be through five bar gate on to the Street in Bramber, with an access track tunning alongside the existing footpath to the east of the site from The Street to the stables.
Both Steyning and Bramber parish councils had no objections to the scheme, though three neighbours to the site had raised concerns about loss of privacy, noise disturbance, and smells.
One resident told the meeting that the scheme would constitute sporadic development of an unsuitable site, prone to flooding.
She said there would be traffic hazards with vehicles exiting on to a busy road.
But the County Surveyor ‘s views were that there were no obstructions to visibility at the site exit and that traffic at the access point was calmed with humps and a 20mph speed limit.
There will be strict control over lighting, stable clearing, manure storage and disposal.
Cllr George Cockman (Ind) said: “In a case like this, where the Highway Authority raises no objections, we have no grounds for refusal.”
There were no votes against the application.
