Special arrangements made to reopen village post office

Post Office Ltd has pledged to ‘pull out the stops’ to provide a service in Pulborough following the sudden closure of the Lower Street branch before Christmas.

A spokesman said this week that it is ‘determined to provide a solution to the situation as soon as possible’.

In the meantime, a temporary free bus service will run from outside Pulborough library, Brooks Way, to Storrington centre and back again for all Post Office customers. This service will start at 9.30 and run hourly until 4.30 from Wednesday 23 January until further notice. The return journey leaves on the hour.

The next plan is to set up a hosted service, whereby a subpostmaster from a nearby post office visits a community at fixed times and offers service from a ‘host’ location. A meeting is taking place with the owners of a shop in the village who have offered use of their premises for the outreach service.

Post Office Ltd is also working hard to reopen Pulborough Post Office in a permanent location in Pulborough. There are two potential applicants and, both are very keen to take on Post Office services on their premises. Their applications are currently being assessed to consider their suitability.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for South & East England, Mark Lawrence, said: “We apologise for the upheaval caused by the temporary closure of Pulborough Post Office.”
