South Downs National Park update

AN UPDATE on the progress of the new South Downs National Park will be given at a South Chichester County Local Committee meeting on Tuesday July 6.

Andrew Shaxson, Chairman of the National Park Authority Planning Committee, will be at the meeting, which starts at 7pm and is being held at Tangmere Village Centre, Malcolm Road, Tangmere (PO20 2HS).

A petition regarding road safety in Stocks Lane, East Wittering will also be presented to the committee at the meeting, and a discussion about possible solutions will take place.

The committee will also make decisions on several highway issues, including whether to make permanent an experimental scheme to change the direction of traffic to northbound only in East Walls, Chichester.

Committee members will also decide whether to give the final go-ahead to a traffic calming scheme for Fishbourne Road East, which includes a 20mph speed limit.

Committee Chairman, Mike Hall, said: "As well as these issues we will also be hearing from Chief Inspector Ali Darge from Sussex Police who will update the committee on community safety issues in the South Chichester area.

"We will also be looking closely at how money from housing developers towards council schemes is being spent in the local area so we can make best use of these funds."

There will also be a chance for the public to raise questions at a 'talk with us' open forum session.

Mike added: "The meeting will cover all aspects of good community engagement including decision making and open discussions with local residents."
