Shoreham supermarket pays tribute to Belle
FRIENDS of a kind-hearted woman who worked at a shop for nearly 30 years have bought a bench in her memory.
Staff at Somerfield, in Ham Road, Shoreham, unveiled the memorial bench, dedicated to Belle Fickweiler.
Guest-of-honour was Belle's widower, David, who – cut the tape to mark the bench's official opening.
Staff raised the money through a series of fund-raising events, including a St Trinian's-themed fancy dress day.
Belle, who worked at Somerfield for 28 years, died in June, aged 64.
Maggie Ford, who organised the fund-raising, paid tribute to her friend earlier this year.
"There's just so much you could say about Belle," she said.
"She was friendly, helpful, she never had a bad word to say about anyone and everybody loved her."
Staff donated extra money raised to St Barnabas House hospice, whose nurses cared for Belle while she was battling against ovarian cancer.
