Sex abuse victim speaks out - moving video interview

A SURVIVOR of childhood sexual abuse wants to encourage other victims to report abuse they have suffered.

Wendy King, 45, from Cook Road, Horsham, was abused by her stepfather Francis Curran in the 1960s and 1970s.

Recently, she reported him to the police and he was jailed for four years. (WSCT 11/4/08]

Although victims of sex offences are entitled to anonymity under UK law, Wendy has chosen to be identified.

"It's not easy," she said.

"It's very difficult thing for me to talk about, but I can't encourage other people to come forward and talk about what happened to them if I'm hiding behind a screen."

Wendy says there is a need for an organisation which can support other survivors of 'historic' sex offences.

"I don't feel there's anything locally around here," she said.

What do you make of Wendy's plans to start a support group?
