A HORSHAM school has received a West Sussex County Travel Mark Plan award for promoting ‘green’ travel.
St Robert Southwell School, Lambs Farm Road, was given the award by Pene Mather, school travel advisor for West Sussex County Council on Monday (January 30).
A spokesperson for the school spoke about how its travel plan co-ordinators Mrs R Aylett and Ms Bentley had worked ‘very hard to achieve the award’.
They added: “Each class has two travel plan co-ordinators who keep daily records of how pupils travel to school. A Footstep programme is also run by co-ordinators Mrs Howard and Mrs Daly who take Key Stage 1 children out and show them how to cross the road safely.”
A spokesperson from WSCC said that the school received the Mark 3 Accreditation for their ‘ongoing and outstanding commitment in supporting pupils and staff to use sustainable modes of travel’. They added: “This whole school ethos is maintained through engaging pupils in travel initiatives such as Walk to School Week, Bikeability, and the Walking Bus.”
The school also awards its very own ‘Golden Boot’ each week to the class with the most green travellers.
