Ricky Butler murder trial latest - teen witness breaks down in tears
A TEENAGE witness broke down in tears as he told a court of the moments before Ricky Butler was fatally injured with a martial arts weapon, this morning.
Richard Martin, 19, of Heath Way, Horsham, has denied murdering popular Forest School pupil Ricky, 15.
He also denies wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to the anonymous teenager.
The witness – who can't be named for legal reasons – told the jury at Lewes Crown Court he'd been standing outside a Hallowe'en party with Ricky when Martin had pushed passed them.
"Me and Ricky were standing on the steps and he pushed between us," he told defence barrister David Fisher QC.
Mr Fisher asked him: "It's Ricky that was pretty rude to him?"
To which the teen replied: "Yeah."
Mr Fisher asked him whether his client then said 'you'd better shut your mouth'.
It was then that the emotional witness asked Judge Richard Brown if he could take a break.
The case continues.
Regular trial updates will appear on this website throughout the day.
