Horsham Rotary Club has had a record 30 teams register to take part in its wacky pancake race competition - held a week later than Pancake Day this year to coincide with school half term.

The County Times is one of the teams to enter this year with reporters Jasmin Martin, Simon Robb, Anna Coe, Joshua Powling getting into the competitive spirit to raise money for charity.

There will be 12 massive mascots competing in the Ringway Giant Egg & Spoon Races including a Bear, Dragon, Lion, Hound, Rabbit, and Horsham FC’s very own Howie the Hornet.

Other companies entering teams include teams from local companies More Th>n , Spofforths, Coole & Haddock and South Lodge Hotel as well as local charities including RSPCA, Homestart, Samaritans and Winston’s Wish.

Wagamama, C&H Fabrics, NatWest, Spirit FM and Sainsbury’s will all be entering teams with the latter trying to emulate the success of their 2009 and 2012 teams when they won the competition. Music Bus will be aiming to win the Best Fancy Dress Trophy for the fourth consecutive year… quite some achievement.

If you are not in a team, come to the Carfax on Tuesday 19 and join in the fun between noon and 2pm... and don’t forget to bring the kids.

Top children’s TV entertainer Dave Benson Phillips will be compering the event and Spirit FM will be broadcasting live from the trackside. It will be flippin’ fantastic.

Horsham‘s fifth Pancake Races are organised once again by the Rotary Club of Horsham with support from Horsham District Council. Sainsbury’s and the Non Stop Party Shop are sponsoring the prizes for the overall winning team and the team with the Best Fancy Dress, whilst Ringway are providing the Racing Arena.

Sainsbury’s are providing the pancakes, sugar and lemon Juice. Waitrose is presenting the ‘Oldies’ Cup for the winning team with all racers being over 40 years of age, and Rawlinson Butler and South East Hearing Centres will be giving the Best Flipper and Best

Individual Fancy Dress prizes.

All proceeds will go to charity, with the charity chosen by the winning team and the most nominated charity receiving a third of the money each. The remaining third will be divided between the best charity team in the races and the second most nominated team.
