Raising awareness of crime prevention
SUSSEX Police are aiming to raise awareness of crime prevention among infant school children as part of their support for National Neighbourhood Watch Week (June 15-21).
In schools across the county, pupils aged six to eight are being challenged to mark ten of their favourite items in any way that makes them instantly recognisable - a sticker or a clothing label for example. T
hose who complete the task will be entered into a prize draw with the winners being invited to visit Hotel 900, the Force helicopter, and meet officers based at Shoreham Airport.
Mark Rendall, Sussex Police Neighbourhood Watch Manager, said: "The aim is raise awareness of crime prevention among this age group in the hope that the message will stay with them about marking their property in years to come.
"Neighbourhood Watch has always been proactive in sending out messages about crime prevention and this is an excellent opportunity to engage with younger children and to instil in them that if you mark your property it is less likely to go missing.
"It doesn't only apply to youngsters, however, and National Neighbourhood Watch Week provides a reminder to all members of the community to ensure their property is identifiable."
