Pub sold alcohol to underage children

A HORSHAM town centre pub is to close for staff retraining after it was found to be selling alcohol to underage children.

According to reports, police test purchasers were served drink at the The Lynd Cross, in the Bishopric, and illegal drugs were also found there.

The pub will be shut from January 14-17 for the retraining.

A Wetherspoon spokesman said it was very happy to assist the police.

Wetherspoon spokesman Nathan Wall said the Lynd Cross operated without problems for many years after its opening ten years ago.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the police in correcting the deficiencies identified," he said.

"This was a sensible way of dealing with an ongoing problem," said Insp Martin Pattenden.

"We believe this temporary closure is necessary to break the link between the purchase and consumption of alcohol by persons under 18.

"It will also allow time for the retraining of staff in preventing underage sales, drunkenness and drug taking in the premises."
