People carrier hits barrier at train station crossing

A BLACK people carrier smashed a barrier at Littlehaven train station this morning (Saturday).

The incident happened at 9.45am after the car tried to drive around a closing barrier.

A witness, who did not wish to be named, said: “The car hit the barrier at some speed and nearly rolled over. The driver got out and saw the damage but got back in and drove off.”

One train was delayed due to the incident but were back on track shortly afterwards.

A team from Network Rail were working on the smashed barrier and hoped to have it fixed by the end of the weekend.

Pedestrians are able to cross but the crossing is closed to cars.
