Obby takes a star turn
THE CRAWLEY Observer is coming to a cinema near you – after the paper took a star turn in a big screen movie.
The Obby is set to make its debut on the silver screen after being used in political thriller 31 North 62 East.
In this shot from the film, above, star John Rhys-Davies – who plays the Prime Minister – peruses a copy of the paper ... just as Gordon Brown no doubt does in real life.
Rhys-Davies, who played bearded axe-wielding dwarf Gimli in Lord of the Rings, leafs through the paper as he is driven to a top secret meeting with an Arab sheikh. The headline reads: '80 BILLION ARMS DEAL SECURED'.
The movie, made by Southwater-based film company Fact Not Fiction Film, is released on September 18 and Crawley residents can catch a one-off screening at the Hawth on October 10.
The thriller tells the story of an SAS soldier's fight for justice after a corrupt prime minister gives up the position of her unit in Afghanistan to clinch an 80 billion arms deal.
Director Tristan Loraine said: "The film carries the topical tag line 'Politics is a dirty business!' and questions whether we can trust our politicians.
"Thematically, it also asks how far we will go to save our own skins."
Other stars in the film include Marina Sirtis, who played Counsellor Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and the lead role of SAS captain Jill Mandelson is played by Heather Peace from London's Burning and Ultimate Force.
The movie, shot in Horsham and Lebanon, was supported by Sussex Newspapers, the Observer's parent company.
