New name for West Sussex youth advice service needs your vote

Have your say now and vote for the new name for West Sussex County Council’s Information, Advice and Guidance services for young people.

A competition was launched at the end of July asking for people to submit their ideas for new names for the service.

A final shortlist of five names has been chosen, and is open to the public vote to choose the overall winner.

The shortlisted names are:

• Finditout

• Options (Options Shop for Young People)

• InfoPlus

• Youth Pathways

• Information and Support Service for Young People

The West Sussex Youth Support and Development Service decided to rebrand its Information, Advice and Guidance services following national changes, which mean schools now have the responsibility for giving careers advice to the majority of young people. This means the Connexions brand is now being phased out nationally.

West Sussex currently has Information Shops for Young People, Connexions Centres and Connexions Personal Advisors. The winning name will bring all these services under one title, which can be easily recognised by young people, parents and professionals.

Cabinet member for children and families Peter Evans said: “We had more than 50 entries to the competition – thank you to all who took the time to think of a new name for the service and enter.

“We want the new name to reflect the ethos of the service – centred around young people, and offering support on all the issues that affect young people today.”

To take part in the vote and choose your favourite name, visit the website at www.yourspacewestsussex.co.uk/branding.

The winning person or team will receive a £50 voucher of their choice or, if over the age of 18, a bottle of champagne.

The service currently provides drop-in sessions for young people offering advice on issues such as employment, training, money matters and debt, housing and homelessness, benefits, mental health issues, physical and sexual health, family and relations, and can also refer young people into a counselling service.
