New adventure at Southwater

Many people think of play areas as being for only younger children.

But think again when you visit Southwater where the new and improved Adventure Play Area will open at Southwater Country Park on March 31.

Following consultation with Country Park users, especially pupils from Southwater Junior School, the modern design of the new adventure play equipment offers unique and exciting play for all ages of children.

Together with a larger play space and refurbished equipment for the younger visitor, this new adventure play area will have something to offer everyone.

Funded by a grant from the National Lottery this new equipment will make the play area much more exciting and challenging. New features include:

*A newly stabilised earth mound in the play area, with a huge 6m high Birds Nest Tree climbing net installed at the top of the mound.

This unique design will enable daring climbers to reach heights of 58m above sea level, with panoramic views across the park.

*A 10m long net Rope Tunnel to reach the top of the mound – the only one of its kind in the district.

*Two new items of spinning play equipment for younger children.

The existing swings, zip wire and climbing frame have all been renovated, including new safety surfacing.

This new development is just one more improvement to play opportunities that are taking place across the district as part of Horsham District Council's Play Strategy and Action Plan.

Roger Paterson, council member for local economy and leisure, said: "This is an exciting new development in children's play in Southwaterand is just one of 54 play areas currently on offer across the district.

"We think that it meets the very highest of standards and will provide future generations of children here in the Horsham District with a huge amount of fun and enjoyment."
