Motorcyclist killed in lorry collision

A 25-YEAR-OLD man has been killed in a collision between a lorry and the motorcycle he was riding.

A 25-YEAR-OLD man has been killed in a collision between a lorry and the motorcycle he was riding.The accident happened around 9am this morning (Sunday May 16).

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene after his motorcycle struck a waste disposal lorry on the A26 Beddingham.

Emergency services sealed off the road and the lorry driver was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries.

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: "There was a fatal road traffic collision at about 9.10am on Sunday May 16.

"There was a collision at A26 Beddingham involving a motorcycle and a waste disposal lorry. As a result of the collision the rider, a 25-year-old man from Eastbourne was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the lorry was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital suffering from minor injuries.

"The cause of the collision is still being investigated and witnesses are being sought to the collision itself or to a motorcycle or group of motorcycles being driven along this road about the time of the collision to contact police quoting Operation Madeley."

The Officer in command of the operation is Sergeant Phil Duffy and the witnesses should call: 0845 607 0999 and quote incident CD780.

Fire services also attended the scene and a spokeswoman from East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "We got called at 8.59am and we sent our Lewes and Newhaven appliances.

"The motorbike had caught fire and we used foam to extinguish it and assisted the ambulance.

"We've got a report of one fatality."
