Another pocket of land in Broadbridge Heath will be redeveloped as plans for 34 new homes were approved by the council last week.

The development, at Heath Barn Farm Farmhouse, on the corner of Five Oaks Road and Billingshurst Road, will see 29 houses and seven flats built north of the Countryside Properties site, where 105 of the first 963 homes are being built.

Horsham District Council’s development control north committee delegated the decision to planning officers with a view to approval.

The existing farmhouse and outbuildings will be demolished to make way for the new homes.

Malcolm Curnock (LDem, Broadbridge Heath), said: “Obviously being within the strategic development area west of Horsham there is an assumption for development.”

However he had hoped that A2 Dominion, the developers, would provide HDC with all afforable housing, considering they are an affordable housing provider themselves, but officers said they had no power to make them go over the 40 per cent mark.

Mr Curnock also questioned why the density of the properties, at 38 properties per hectare, was above the 30 to 35 per hectare specified for the western edge of the Broadbridge Heath development in the strategic planning document.

He said he was frustrated that the affordable housing was at the noisiest part of the site nearest the main road, and that there was no open space amenity on the site itself.

Motorists will enter and exit via Five Oaks Road, with a ghost lane created for those turning right into the development.

Residents will be unable to turn right out of the site, but will have to turn left and go around the roundabout yet to be built as part of the new Broadbridge Heath bypass by Countryside Properties.
